If you want a mental escape from today’s constant bombardment of alarming news, one method is to lose yourself in a good book — and an excellent way to do that is to read that good book on one of Amazon’s Fire tablets.
Amazon has put many of the latest Fire HD tablets on sale starting today, and if you’re looking for a simple tablet for reading or watching movies, you might want to check them out. For example, the 32GB model of the Fire HD 10 tablet, normally $139.99, is currently on sale for $94.99. Meanwhile, the 64GB model, usually $179.99, can now be had for $104.99, a savings of $75. These models include lockscreen ads; if you’re allergic to advertising, you can grab the 32GB model without ads for $109.99 ($45 off), or the 64GB model for $119.99 ($75 off).
These aren’t the lowest prices we’ve seen on Amazon’s Fire HD tablets — that was in October — but they’re still good savings. Although Fire tablets are not as powerful or high-end as some of the other tablets out there (read: iPads), they remain solid workhorses for consuming content from Amazon, including Kindle books, Audible audiobooks, and movies and shows from Prime and other streaming services.
The HD 10 is equipped with a 10.1-inch HD screen, an octa-core processor, and 3GB of RAM. And if you want something that your children can play with, the Amazon Fire 10 HD Kids, which comes with a child-proof case and an extended two-year warranty, is also on sale at Amazon and Best Buy for $139.99, down from $189.99.
More deals for tax day
- If you’re mailing off your tax forms (or writing up an extension) on this, the last day of the tax season, you may want to check your current blood pressure. You can do that using the Amazfit Band 7, which is on sale for $39.99 ($10 off) at Amazon and Walmart. This inexpensive sports watch can track your heart rate, oxygen levels, and your day-to-day activity (not to mention your daily fitness routine). It’s neither the most modern nor comprehensive of smartwatches, but it gives you a lot for very little. Read our review.
- According to our reviewer, Allison Johnson, the Google Pixel 9 Pro is the smartphone where Google “finally got the hardware right.” The 6.3-inch Android device boasts an excellent screen and build quality, a new Tensor G4 chip, and seven years of OS updates. The 128GB version is currently available at Amazon and Best Buy starting at $799, or $200 off its usual list price. This is not the lowest price it’s dropped to — we saw it go for $749 in March — but it’s a fine deal nonetheless. Read our review.
- If you’re a podcaster or would-be podcaster, you may want to check out the DJI Mic 2 Transmitter, a wireless mic that can make you and your guests sound like pros (and will look a lot better on the video than bulky headphones). The mic offers up to six hours of battery life, intelligent noise cancellation, and 14 hours of internal recording (although not when you’re connected via Bluetooth). It’s currently on sale at Amazon for an all-time low of $84.95, a savings of about $14.
