Expedia Group lays off employees in latest workforce cut

Seattle-based Expedia Group conducted a round of layoffs this week. The company did not provide details on the number of people let go.

Posts on LinkedIn by affected employees show the layoffs impacting engineering and other departments.

Skift, which first reported the cuts, said the layoffs impacted about 3% of Expedia’s workforce.

Expedia had 16,500 employees across nearly 50 countries, as of Dec. 31, according to Expedia’s annual 10-K filing. That’s slightly down from its total employment of 17,100 at the end of 2023. About half of its workforce are in tech-related roles.

Expedia has gone through multiple rounds of layoffs over the past several months.

“As part of a broader effort to strengthen our business and position the company for long-term growth, we are restructuring parts of our organization,” Expedia said in a statement. “These are difficult but necessary decisions to ensure we sharpen our focus on strategic priorities and remain well-positioned to deliver for customers and partners.”

Expedia reported revenue growth of 10% to $3.1 billion in the fourth quarter, while adjusted net income grew 30% year-over-year. Both beat analyst expectations. The company reports first quarter earnings May 8.

Expedia Group includes brands such as vrbo, Orbitz, Hotwire, Trivago, and Hotels.com in addition to the flagship Expedia.com.
