Concerns About Bitcoin's Security and Legal Risks – Looking for Insights

Hey everyone, I've been doing some research on Bitcoin and blockchain technology in general, and while I'm fascinated by the innovation behind it, I came across a couple of concerns I couldn't fully answer on my own. I'm not an expert by any means—just someone trying to understand the topic better. I'd love to hear what more knowledgeable people here think. 1. Legal Risk of Illegal Content in the Blockchain From what I understand, it's possible (at least in theory) for someone to embed illegal content—like copyrighted material or, worse, something like child abuse imagery—directly into the blockchain. Since a full node downloads and stores the entire blockchain, wouldn't that mean that node operators could potentially be in possession of illegal material just by running a node? Even if it's just a few bytes of encoded data, the fact that it's stored and distributed could raise serious legal concerns. Has this ever been a real issue? And how does the Bitcoin community handle this possibility? 2. Network Attack via Mass Node Creation Another thing I'm wondering about is the risk of a coordinated attack on the network via mass node deployment. As far as I know, consensus in the Bitcoin network depends on a majority of nodes (or rather mining power, in the case of Bitcoin) agreeing on changes. What if a large group—perhaps a government or other actor with an interest in disrupting Bitcoin—were to set up tens of thousands of nodes? Given that setting up a node isn't very resource-intensive (just a small PC and around 1TB of disk space), is there a risk of such an entity gaining enough influence to disrupt consensus or push malicious changes? I'm asking these questions because I want to understand both the technical resilience and the legal implications of running or participating in the Bitcoin network. If anyone can clarify these points or link to further reading, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Potential-Composer48 [link] [comments]

Hey everyone,

I've been doing some research on Bitcoin and blockchain technology in general, and while I'm fascinated by the innovation behind it, I came across a couple of concerns I couldn't fully answer on my own. I'm not an expert by any means—just someone trying to understand the topic better. I'd love to hear what more knowledgeable people here think.

1. Legal Risk of Illegal Content in the Blockchain

From what I understand, it's possible (at least in theory) for someone to embed illegal content—like copyrighted material or, worse, something like child abuse imagery—directly into the blockchain.

2. Network Attack via Mass Node Creation

Another thing I'm wondering about is the risk of a coordinated attack on the network via mass node deployment.
