Custodian Third Party Risk Diversification
My broker has answered my question about who has in custody the whole BTC I have with them. The answer was: they do it in-house, with their own bank in Switzerland, and state-of-the-art protection. This surprised me because I would have bet my pint they were using Bitcoin like a lot of other people. Meanwhile, I read another article stating that Blackrock will add Anchorage as secondary custodian to their main custodian, Bitcoin. Anchorage are, by the by, the ones that keep custody for ARK's Bitcoin fund. So this tells me that, if one so wishes, one can diversify that type of risk, too, particularly if he is ready to pay the slightly higher fees of, say, ARK compared to Blackrock. At the moment, I have Swissquote Bank risk, the custodian of my Bitcoin, and Coinbase risk (AFAIK) as custodian of the BTC held by Strategy. Plus I have a small amount in my own cold storage, which makes it three different custody risks. This might be interesting information for some of you you might have, at times, a queasy feeling about the danger of theft/hack of the Bitcoin they have with ETFs or brokerages, or indirectly through share ownership. submitted by /u/ManlyAndWise [link] [comments]
